Whenever I’m stressed, nothing really beats a leisurely ol’ stroll down the Thames. Particularly at sunset. Particularly if there is wine involved.

I have made it a mission of mine to track down the very best riverside pubs and restaurants this summer. Thus far, The Crabtree in Fulham is absolutely cracking, almost like being in a forest and next to a lake all at once. But in Fulham. Expect a post on this soon.

What we are really here to talk about is the little dream-boat that is The Dove, on the Upper Mall in Hammersmith. Getting the quick trivia out of the way, Charles II allegedly dined here and this pub has the smallest bar room in the world. See what you say to both of these points when you come to visit.

We took up a perch on the beautiful terrace overlooking the river and ordered up a treat.

Here we have the Orecchietta pasta (which I am told means ears?! Answers below please) with broccoli pesto, pine nuts, spinach and dried cherry tomatoes. Doesn’t this look divine. It tasted it too.

Here we have the pan fried sea bass with grilled artichokes, roast heritage tomatoes and garlic spinach puree. This was delicious but I wasn’t full, so naturally ordered some additional chips on the side afterwards. The full menu is fabulous and has your classic fish and chips, fish pie, burgers and steak as well as some adventurous and playful dishes like the harissa chicken and pork ribeye with barley. We also visited on a Sunday and the roasts that wafted past our noses looked HUGE.

Two of my favourite things 🙂

This would be my weekend recommendation for a sunshine-filled evening by the river. If anyone has any riverside suggestions for me I would love to hear them!

Where are we all off to this weekend?

Love, M.
