In spite of the transport difficulties and the rain, we did make it to Ljubljana which was eerily quiet owing to the Feast Day holiday but very atmospheric nonetheless. Check out these beautiful canals to rival Amsterdam (could be controversial!) We took a simple bus from Lake Bled to Ljubljana which was straightforward to organise and isn’t too far a trip.

We only had a morning to spend here having spent the majority of our short trip near Bled. If you too are working to a short time frame in the capital, make sure you don’t miss Ljubljana Castle and take a walk or a boat along the picturesque canals.

It was a pity that we didn’t make it to Tivoli City Park which looks extremely beautiful. If you are here in warm weather, bring a picnic! There is also a city zoo and several historical museums in the centre.

Top tip, visit Slovenia in Summer! This is a stunningly beautiful country with gorgeous natural landscapes but I have to say the rain here dampened my enthusiasm slightly and I appreciate that even with editing some of these pictures look grey and miserable. I have seen photos of people swimming and frolicking in the waters of Lake Bled during summer which have made me determined to return in the sun!
Has anyone been to Ljubljana (for longer than 3 hours!) and what did you enjoy?
Love, M.

The pictures look amazing, even though the weather wasn’t very good! I haven’t been in Slovenia yet, but after seeing these pictures I might consider to go some time soon (if time and my wallet allow me to haha) Great post anyway!

    xx, Valeria
