To celebrate the birthday of a very special lady we spent the day at the rather lovely Gomshall Mill Inn and wandering around the village of Shere. What with the new Bridget Jones film hitting the cinemas, which is hilarious by the way for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, this was quite the topical visit, as the church in Shere was the one used to film Bridget’s parents’ renewal of vows ceremony in the second film. Shere was also used as the village in The Holiday but now I am off on a tangent. Gomshall Mill Inn is a must visit if ever in this area, the water mill still runs and is visible from both inside and outside. We have been here before for a summer birthday and enjoyed much better weather then. There really is nothing better than dining al fresco. This was an utterly delicious burger.
We then went for a lovely autumnal walk in the neighbouring village of Shere, perusing the boutique shops and country pubs. Anyone looking for a lovely country weekend out of the Big Smoke, this one comes highly recommended. Take a look and see for yourself, it is even more beautiful in the sunshine.
P.s. How stunning is this cake from Patisserie Valerie?
