One of my favourite things to do in the summer is to visit this place, it really does take me back to my school days. Mayfield Lavender has become quite an institution of its own; every day during June- August it is teeming with visitors armed with their SLR cameras. I hear it even appeared on Saturday Morning Kitchen! I like to visit towards the end of the season and in early evening just before the field closes. It is usually much quieter this way and sometimes you get lucky with the start of a sunset.
It really is beautiful.
As lovely as the sunset here is, this is such a fabulous day out if you don’t mind going when it’s busy. I know I have made several day-time visits this summer. There’s a lovely shop selling bunches of freshly picked lavender, lavender oils and the like, as well as an amazing cafe. Try the lavender lemonade, lavender ice-cream or the lavender afternoon tea. There are also regular tractor rides around the whole farm which look like great fun.
