This is a very late post but the food here was too good not to mention it. I went to Chez Vous in Warlingham for my birthday this year; situated in a beautiful hotel on a picturesque village green I was loving it before I’d even walked through the door, only to be greeted by a most welcome Hendricks and tonic. Chez Vous serves high quality genuine French cuisine. The menu here changes regularly and this was the tasting menu from Friday 15th July which we enjoyed with the accompanying flight of wine.

Look at that for presentation. This was light, fresh and full of flavour; the perfect start to the meal.

1.jpgRisotto topped with prawns in ginger and cucumber salsa

I loved this shocking yellow dish, the presentation was as outstanding as the taste. Both prawns and risotto I count amongst my favourite foods so this course was the dream.

2.jpgRoasted veal fillet served with mustard sauce, pea puree, fondant potatoes and chantenay carrots

This was the standout dish for me, everything about it was flawless. The veal was tender and juicy, the sauce full of flavour and the vegetables just perfect.

3.jpgBleu d’auvergne cheese creme brûlée, onion jam

I am such an enormous fan of cheese, as of yet I don’t think I’ve met one I haven’t liked (except perhaps gorgonzola on pizza, that was not for me!) Strong cheese in particular is my vice so a cheese course like this always makes me incredibly happy. This strong blue was beautiful and fragrant, coming with gourmet crackers and a very flavoursome onion jam.

4.jpgStrawberry delice with pistachio ice cream

I was extremely full by this point and I must admit my sweet tooth is rather limited so I struggled to finish this one. That said, the presentation was absolutely outstanding, as was the pistachio ice cream. Although strawberry is not my favourite flavour, even I could appreciate how good this dessert was! A perfect finish to a genuinely stunning meal.

All in all I could not recommend this restaurant highly enough. At £60.00 for two people only on Friday, for five courses of food of this quality this is such a bargain. The optional flight of wine costs a further £20 per person. The tasting menu changes regularly so even if the above is not to your taste, the style and quality of the food is evident so do check back as the tasting menu is updated. There is also a very good value fixed price menu. The service is excellent, the waiters, knowledgeable, and the decor is simple, classic and understated.

Love, M.
